Fly Fishing & Spinning

With this fishing experience, we will focus on catching large predators in the wonderful Parc Natural del Delta de l'Ebre.

This location is incredible: a nature reserve away from tourist trails, featuring landscapes reminiscent of both Florida and the south of France. We will head out on a boat in search of Palometones (Spanish mackerel), Amberjack, Sea bass, and Mahi-mahi that hunt near the surface. This area is particularly famous for palometones that can exceed 30 kg, known for their spectacular feeding frenzies.

The only certainty is that you will have the chance to witness incredible surface attacks that will leave you breathless.

As you spend a day at sea amidst the most beautiful landscapes in Spain, with the river at your back, mountains in the background, and sandy beaches lining the coast.

Catches & tecnique for topwater fishing in Delta del Ebre

The main and simplest technique for this experience will be spinning, but during the right season and with the appropriate targets, fly fishing can also yield great rewards, especially with mahi mahi, lubinas, ajovas, and bonitos.

For fly fishing, it is advisable to use a 9/10-foot rod with a line weight of 9 and above, allowing for effortless casting and the ability to tackle the large predators of this area.

The predators you can target include:

  • Palometones (Spanish Mackerel): The largest Mackerel in the Mediterranean can be found in the Delta de l'Ebro. Records approach 38 kg, and the best seasons are early summer and autumn, although it is possible to fish year-round with the right technique.

  • Ajovas (greater Amberjack): These can be caught year-round, but the best times are spring and autumn, with specimens over 6 kg offering impressive jumps when hooked.

  • Sea Bass: The Sea bass of the Delta de l'Ebro are renowned for their abundance and size and can be caught at any time of the year. However, larger specimens tend to appear in autumn and winter.

  • Mahi-mahi: From August to November, Mahi-mahi are a great fishing attraction in the Delta. Their specimens have recently reached sizes over a meter, and when the first one is caught, they often approach the boat in groups, providing an exciting and productive fishing experience.

  • Bonitos (small tunas): Bonitos offer fights almost all year round, with spectacular leaps in front of the river. Spring and summer are the best seasons.
