This is a day of unforgettable fly fishing in Valtellina, one of the most beautiful and evocative valleys in the Italian Alps. Fishing takes place on the Adda and Mera rivers, as well as their tributaries and alpine lakes, renowned for their abundant populations of brown trout, marble trout, rainbow trout, and grayling. Valtellina is famous for being one of the best grayling waters in Italy and among the most productive in southern Europe.

Imagine casting dry flies and nymphs in these pristine, crystal-clear waters, where catching trout and grayling over 45-50 cm is not uncommon. As you fish, you’ll be surrounded by the breathtaking landscapes of Lake Como and the towering Alps, creating a fishing experience like no other.

Beyond the fishing, you’ll immerse yourself in the local culture, enjoying the charm of regional cuisine and the rich traditions of the area. The tranquility of the riverside, paired with the thrill of catching wild trout, makes this the perfect outing for anglers who seek both an exciting catch and a peaceful connection with nature.

In Valtellina, you'll experience more than just exceptional fishing—it's a chance to indulge your passion amidst stunning scenery, making it an extraordinary adventure for anyone who appreciates the beauty of the Italian Alps and the art of fly fishing.

Catches & tecnique for grayling in Valtellina

Known for their beauty and distinctive sail-like dorsal fin, grayling are not only a visual delight but also a rewarding challenge for anglers, with many specimens exceeding 45 cm in Valtellina’s waters.

During our excursion, we'll focus on nymphs and dry flies. Valtellina is one of Italy's premier grayling fishing destinations, offering anglers a unique opportunity to target this species.

The best time to catch grayling is from late August through November, when cooler temperatures and stable water levels create ideal conditions. Fishing is productive throughout these months, with clear waters and stunning Alpine landscapes adding to the experience.

For this trip, our guides use 10ft 4 WT rods, ideal for Czech nymphing and dry fly fishing in wider waters.
