Fishing the Nahuel Huapi Lake in Bariloche
In our Lake Trout Fishing on Nahuel Huapi lake we will try to catch the huge lake trout of Nahuel Huapi lake in Patagonia. But not only that—we will cruise the lake, enjoying the amazing Patagonian scenery, and have a barbecue by the lake with bife de chorizo and local beer. An incredible day is guaranteed.
We will depart from a dock just a 15-minute drive from Bariloche and navigate Nahuel Huapi for about half an hour to reach the fishing spots, which, coincidentally, are also paradisiacal natural locations: river mouths, waterfalls cascading into the lake, and crystal-clear beaches.
It is precisely in these spots that the enormous Nahuel Huapi trout come close to the shores to feed on small fish and insects.
For lunch, we will have a BBQ on the beach and enjoy a Patagonia beer before continuing to fish throughout the afternoon.
This is the quintessential day for the locals here: a boat, a BBQ, bife de chorizo, huge trout, and beer. In short, one of those family or friend-filled days that’s hard to forget.

Catches & technique for fishing Nahuel Huapi in Bariloche
You will try to catch the giant trout of Nahuel Huapi, one of the world's deepest lakes. These trout live in the lake's depths and come near the shores to feed on smaller fish and insects.
The best technique is fly fishing with a streamer and sinking line. Using a boat with an electric engine, we can quietly reach the best spots. Spinning is also a good option for fishing.
The prime fishing season at Nahuel Huapi Lake is from November to April, covering spring and summer in Argentina. However winter fishing is also possible.
A strong rod and a sinking line are essential for fishing the deep lake and dealing with the strong winds and giant trout.

This Rod Society experience is strictly private and we don't do mixed groups. Your itinerary is fully crafted around your specific group and skill level. Whether you are traveling solo or with a large group, you will have dedicated private guides to ensure a seamless, high-touch experience.
What equipment should I use?
Best to bring rods that are 9-10 feet long and suitable for 6-7 weight lines, which are ideal for handling the deep waters and strong winds of Nahuel Huapi.
If you don’t have it, our guide can provide you with the necessary equipment.
However, it’s important to wear appropriate outdoor clothing for comfort throughout the day, such as waterproof outerwear, layered clothing for temperature fluctuations, and UV protection. While our equipment is top-notch, you are welcome to bring your own favored rod and line if you prefer.
