Fishing Dorados in Buenos Aires
Who wouldn't trade a day at the museum for a legendary Golden Dorado hunt?
Just 45 minutes from the vibrant heart of Buenos Aires lies one of the planet’s most dynamic water systems: the Paraná Delta. This "Urban Jungle" is a sprawling labyrinth of lush islands, hidden streams, and exuberant wildlife that feels worlds away from the city’s skyscrapers. Navigating the Río de la Plata—the widest estuary on Earth—we venture into a prehistoric ecosystem where the brown-water marshes hide South America’s most aggressive predators.
But beyond being one of the world's premier destinations for Golden Dorado, the Paraná Delta is where you can experience the true Porteño DNA. Far from the tourist crowds of the famous districts, this is where locals escape for the weekend, sipping drinks by the water and enjoying a traditional comida with friends. This is exactly what we do: immerse ourselves in the local culture and the slow rhythm of the river, while testing our skills against the most fearsome predator of the Delta.
Meeting point
Buenos Aires
Buenos Aires is a city of elegant contradictions—a place where European grandeur meets Latin passion, and where world-class museums sit just miles away from a prehistoric wilderness. Known as the "Paris of the South," it offers a refined tapestry of historic architecture, legendary steakhouse culture (asados), and a late-night pulse that is entirely its own.
Catches & tecnique for fishing in Buenos Aires
The star of the show is the Golden Dorado, the "King of the River." Renowned for its bone-crushing strikes and acrobatic leaps, a Dorado on the fly or spinning gear is a bucket-list challenge. We also target the Tararira (Wolf Fish), a territorial predator that provides explosive topwater action with poppers in the shallower lagoons. Depending on the season and tides, we may also encounter the Chafalote—the "machete" fish—a fierce fighter found in faster currents.
While we primarily use #6 to #8 weight fast-action rods with floating lines and streamers for fly fishing, this environment is equally suited for spinning enthusiasts using lures and topwater artificials. You'll navigate five distinct zones of the Delta, selecting the day's spot based on water levels and wind to ensure you are always casting into the most productive structures.
