Fly fishing in Spain

Spain is one of Europe's best-kept fly fishing secrets. The country holds thousands of kilometers of protected trout water: much of it catch-and-release, much of it rarely fished by visiting anglers. We fish three distinct areas. The Pyrenees offer remote, high-altitude rivers with wild brown trout and exceptional mountain scenery. The pre-Pyrenean rivers of Catalonia are more accessible, fish well from early spring, and stay open year-round, less than two hours from Barcelona, something very few people know and even fewer have experienced. And then there is the Irati forest near Pamplona: the water Hemingway fished when he came to Spain, immortalized in The Sun Also Rises. Wild, forested, and largely unchanged since he wrote about it.
