Day 1: Hiking Up and Alpine Lakes

Just like in the most classic New Zealand backcountry trips, we’ve taken our signature "Fish & Hike" format in the Dolomites, extended it by a day, and included a night in a high-altitude mountain hut.

Because we know that the best fishing spots are often the most remote, and the plan for this adventure reflects that: on the first day, we will hike for about two hours to reach secluded alpine lakes where you can stalk Brook Trout and wild Brown Trout using large terrestrials and dry flies.

We’ll enjoy a great picnic at high altitude and share a beer in a traditional mountain refuge. We will stay there for dinner and spend the night in a classic hut, open only during the summer and nestled deep within the stunning Brenta Dolomites.

Dinner will be traditional—often polenta or local game—while the overnight stay will be a true mountain experience: shared rooms, wooden bunk beds, and wool blankets. It’s a leap back in time, reminiscent of the pure expeditions of our youth.

Meeting point

Madonna di Campiglio

A hidden gem of just 822 residents nestled in the heart of the Adamello Natural Park, this charming village serves as the perfect base for many of our unforgettable fishing adventures in the Dolomites.

Day 2: Peat Bogs and Hiking Down

The following day, after breakfast at the hut, we will continue our trek to reach the peat bogs, a unique and iconic environment in this part of the Dolomites. The waters flow down from the alpine lakes, creating small streams through green meadows and wildflowers where hungry wild Brown Trout feed eagerly during the summer window.

The fishing here is incredible, centered around big Parachutes and Big Bees. The colors of these trout are breathtaking, and you’ll feel miles away from civilization. After a morning fishing session, we’ll have another mountain picnic before beginning our descent back to the valley.

This experience is not for everyone; it requires a spirit of adaptation and a good fitness level. However, the reward is unmatched: wild trout, a unique experience in Italy, and dry fly action you will never forget.
