Kayak & Fishing in the Grado Lagoon
Spend a day in search of sea bass, paddling through the heart of the Grado Lagoon and its historic valli. A kayak is more than just a stunning way to explore; it is the ultimate tool for approaching sea bass in their natural habitat without the intrusion of a boat engine.
The "Valli Veneziane" are unique, man-made marvels dating back to the 1400s. By carving channels into the lagoon, the Venetians engineered the perfect ecosystem for sea bass, mullet, and sea bream. Today, these canals have returned to the wild: a private, incredibly captivating habitat all their own.
You will navigate these waters by kayak, casting small lures toward the banks to entice sea bass as they hunt for baitfish and crabs near the shore. This is an almost Caribbean experience, located just 60 minutes from Venice and its relentless tourism.

Season & Tecnique for fishing in the Lagoon
Fishing for European sea bass takes place deep within the valli, far from the open sea. Much like black bass, sea bass are masters of the ambush hiding within seagrass beds or along natural drop-offs, perfectly camouflaged by the tidal currents.
While fly fishing remains an option for the highly skilled caster, spinning is the preferred technique for its versatility and ease of use from a kayak. Spin fishing allows you to effectively target all the predatory species that inhabit both the inner lagoon and the borders of the open sea. For wading and kayak sessions, the ideal setup is a 7ft rod (10-20g casting) paired with a light, compact reel and 18-20lb braided line.
The European sea bass is the undisputed queen of this environment. You’ll find them in all sizes, from spirited 15 cm juveniles to trophy breeding specimens exceeding 5 kg.
The season follows the rhythm of the weather, typically running from mid-April through mid-October.
