ALTITUDE LAKE FISHING
Brown Trout
May - Sep
Fly Fishing & Spinning
9ft, 4-5 WT
On this itinerary, we do something different: we take a cable car up into the Pyrenees to fish for wild brown trout in remote high-altitude lakes.
It feels a bit like a ski trip, you load your gear into the car, reach the base station, and ride up, ready for a full day in the mountains.
But here, it’s summer. The meadows are green, and all we carry is a fly rod. We’ll hike from lake to lake, searching for big trout cruising near the surface in pursuit of insects and terrestrials.
It’s a perfect day in the mountains: breathtaking landscapes, still alpine waters, and the simple joy of casting a fly in wild places.
And if, between casts, you feel like lying down in the grass for a little siesta, well, we get you, we’re in Spain, after all.
Catches & tecnique for fly fishing in the spanish Pyrenees
Here, you'll have the chance to catch beautiful, wild brown trout, some of impressive size, eager to feed after the long winter freeze.
In the high Pyrenean lakes, two techniques work best.
The first is sight fishing on the fly. When we spot a trout cruising the shoreline in search of insects, we’ll make a long, precise, and delicate cast using a small wet fly or a dry fly.
It’s an incredible style of fishing: technical, visual, and full of adrenaline.
The second highly effective approach is spinning, actively searching for large trout lying in wait for newly hatched baitfish.
