Beyond its fame for the vast apple orchards that line its shores, Lake Santa Giustina holds a prestigious title: it is the current world-record site for the largest Marble Trout ever caught, measuring a staggering 109 cm and 18 kg.
Thanks to years of meticulous management, the lake has become a vital sanctuary for both Marble and Lake Trout. The objective of this experience is singular: to hunt one of these giants using either fly or spinning techniques. Nestled deep within the Brenta Dolomites, the lake offers breathtaking views of the surrounding orchards and alpine peaks, with fishing possible nearly year-round.

Lake Santa Giustina is a monument to the power of water, that for thousands of years slowly dug along the Noce river picturesque canyons much loved by canoeists, and that now, harnessed, produces electricity thanks to the imposing dam, forming the largest artificial lake in Trentino.
Season & Tecnique for Lake Fishing in the Dolomites
Fishing for trophy trout in the Dolomites is a game of depth and endurance. Because Santa Giustina is a vast, deep-water basin, the strategy shifts toward covering water and triggering the predatory instincts of massive, deep-dwelling fish.
For Spinning, we recommend a 210cm to 240cm rod with a medium action (20-30g)—the perfect balance for launching the lures needed to reach these predators. For the Fly enthusiast, a 9ft #7 weight setup is more than sufficient to handle the lake's conditions and manage the strength of the lake and marble trout.
The beauty of Santa Giustina is its resilience to the seasons. While fishing is possible nearly year-round, two windows are truly elite. Early Spring is spectacular, as the surrounding apple orchards burst into bloom and fish become more active after the winter melt. Late Autumn is equally legendary, as the dropping temperatures trigger an aggressive feeding frenzy before the winter sets in.
The Marble Trout (Marmorata) is the holy grail of this region—a prehistoric predator unique to the Adriatic basin. Alongside it, the Lake Trout (Lacustre) provides an incredible challenge; silver-clad speedsters known for their powerful runs. In these waters, every cast is a potential encounter with the world-record legacy of Santa Giustina.
